So What Is RSD and who can it affect?
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) can affect anyone at all. It doesn't matter what race, gender, religion you are, or what kind of lifestyle or upbringing you have, it can affect anyone, it can affect you!
RSD/CRPS can develop spontaniously, you could literally wake up one morning with RSD, though it is more common after a minor injury, even a cut or a sprain.
RSD is a neurological condition, the brain and the affected area stop working in sync, causing constant severe and disproportionate pain, changes in skin colour, swelling, abnormal senstions like the affected area or areas being in a vice, a burning sensation as if the body is really on fire although it is cold to the touch, pins and needles so intense that swords and spears would be a more accurate description, abnormal hair growth on the area, loss of movement - and that is just the tip of the iceberg. It can cause visual distrubances, gynaelogical problems, erectile dysfunction, depression, worsen existing conditions like asthma, change your hair colour and hair type, memory and concentration issues and so much more.
RSD/CRPS really can turn a persons life upside down - and not just their life, but the lives of their loved ones too!
In UK alone, there are approximately 11,500 people suffering with RSD. There is no cure and around 50% will go into remission. The chances of controlling the condition and the patient going into remission, are greatly increased if the patient recieves appropriate treatment in the first 6 months.
